Instances are a bit of a culture shock to anyone who hasn't seen them before. Suddenly, they are responsible for killing all of the baddies themselves, and it can be quite overwhelming. OP needs to realize that as a beginner, they do not have a clue (and neither did we) and that learning about how to properly tackle an instance is just another thing to throw on the pile. Play the game, learn the game, have fun.

I didn't realize henchmen existed until almost a week after starting Prophecies and was doing everything solo until then.

At least Factions added a quest for you to learn about henchmen.

One of the very best (in my opinion... and very worst according to some others) things about guild wars is that, despite being an online RPG, you very rarely need to play with other humans. This is all due to the system of Instances with Heroes/Henchmen. In fact, I'd be surprised if this game had survived half as long without it. One the player base starts getting bored and leaves, its pretty difficult to do anything without instances and NPC party members. Instancing does have some small drawbacks, but overall I'd say its much better than the alternative.



You don't have to like the system, but if you don't you likely won't like the game much. For me personally, the biggest thing I fear about Guild Wars 2 is the lack of instanced zones....

I wouldn't be playing the game if it wasn't instanced. I hate games where everything is persistent, and the fact that there's going to be more persistence in GW2 is one of the big things that makes me hesitate slightly.

The whole "keep [insert NPC's name] alive" thing is the suckiest part of Factions but you can generally play around it. I'm happy I only started from Factions two times because it has a rather harsh learning curve compared to the other campaigns.

I think it's great! I can go out and do what I need to do without bots getting in my way.

I highly recommend adding henchmen or real people to your party if you haven't already. At least one party member should be a monk or ritualist that can heal. Two is usually the norm once you leave the island.

Craft armor in Seitung Harbor! Your starter armor is pretty much tissue paper and I don't recommend waiting until you reach Kaineng Center to upgrade if you're a newbie. Invest in a salvage kit to get crafting materials. You also have the option of trading various monster drops for collector armor, but that can be a little more time consuming if you're not having good luck with drops.

Also, calling targets (ctrl+space) will probably make your life a lot easier if you're playing with henchmen. Vital NPC being attacked by something? Call the target and your henchmen will focus on killing it.

WOW recently included phasing into their areas - it's not a huge thing, but players who had done certain quests couldnt go back and help their friends through the same thing because it changed the zone for them.

I'm very thankful there isnt a persistent world - I have been the victim of (as well as the villain too) of spawn camping an escort quest of the opposing faction, killing giant ents is really fun when it's in the middle of nowhere. (felwood)

instances IS the reason I play guildwars, I can play with the people I want to --when I want to and NONE of the people I dont wish to. It will be a shame that gw2 is moving away from this and one of the reasons I wont buy it.

All true enough and the fact that GW2 is none instanced comes from all the complaints from guess who, Us the player community.

Thanks to people saying how hard it was to get parties together, players leaving mid game, refusing to res party members unless paid.
Players refusing to accept others into the party unless they had a specific build or had certain consumables etc.

Well the result of all that feedback has lead to a game where you take your character and play it exactly as you wish to play it and other players come and join in if they want to.

It would be interesting if they considered having the ability to limit numbers but I doubt you could do it in gw2.

I am thinking of some online games where you set up a game room to play a particular map and set a password thus allowing only your friends to join.

Works on first person shooters but maybe not on mmrpgs

Wait what quest was this where the girl needs to be alive? Anyway it cant take any longer then 5 minutes to walk back through a portal. Then protecting them..if your unable to then maybe your not suppoesed to be at this stage.

Personally i like instancing because say you were wit henchman its easy to just go out into an area and do as you please, simply muck around with builds are play as carelessly as you like on thse lazy days without upsetting team members

I don't generally enjoy MMO's TBH but I love the way Guild wars is set up currently. I can choose to play with whom I want to, and not have to worry about others in my world messing up whatever plan I have to accomplish whatever I want too. Instances prevent dumb crap like waiting in line to kill XXX monster, or not finding enough spawns to finish some crappy mission, because to many people are farming them. There's ton's of reasons why GW did what they did to begin with and it's one of the major reasons I keep coming back to it after trying other games.

I like the cooperative/instanced missions it teaches you game play and strategy.I would say they are done far better done with real people than npcs.It would be best if they were to be in GW2 to keep some kind of team play which I don't see.

I can't help but think the OP is playing a joke, or is entirely and completely ignorant of what instancing is and of the game mechanics.
A. There is mission out of Seitung Harbor.
B. I am unaware of any quests that involve keeping a female npc alive. It is totally possible this individual found the dead nanny (that's supposed to be dead) and didn't understand that she is supposed to be so.

However, to get to the point where you get to the 2nd half of Noobie Island you cannot be completely ignorant of game mechanics.

As for instanced play, having limits on people in PvX areas allows you to focus on the tasks at hand and assures that all take part.

One of the concerns I have with GW2 is that I roll into town at the end of a bandit raid, don't get credit for participating in the victory, and miss out on the quest chain that will develop into.

Could you imagine the Underworld as a non-instanced area? LOL
There you are, carefully exploring, pulling enemies, setting up on corners and all the other non SF sin stuff. Then the lone survivor of a noobie group runs by you, dragging 5 aatxes and 7 Graspings behind him.

Non-instanced makes sense in solo games. Like Fiesta.

I think the OP is just frustrated with escort missions.

And, in the end, don't we all just have to agree that every form of escort missions just plain suck?

I like the instances.

I can load in to go kill a boss, and then at some point get up and go make a sammich and know that nobody's gonna come around and PK me or kill the boss before I get to it.

I can farm in peace. Nobody's gonna kill my raptors in my raptor cave but ME.

I like the instanced missions/storyline and endgame content for all the reasons everyone else has claimed. I'm on the fence about instanced explorable areas, only because Vanquishing is so much fun and a not so grindy way to grind titles.

Its my understanding that Dungeons in GW2 will be instanced. And will revolve around your personal story and endgame content. Its only the explorable areas that are persistant. Anyway, sounds like the best of GW1 instances and persistant gameplay from other MMOs to me.
